Welcome to the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery, where patients truly come first! We are a full service plastic surgery institution serving Columbus and Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Bivik Shah, our board certified plastic surgeon, created the Columbus Institute of Plastic Surgery to provide quality plastic surgery within a private practice here in central Ohio. What is Bariatric Surgery?

According to the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases, nearly two-thirds of U.S. adults are overweight, and nearly one-third are obese. Many people struggle with their weight their whole lives, trying diet after diet with no success.

But there is a surgical solution to morbid obesity – bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery helps obese patients lose extreme amounts of weight, helping them lead an active, healthy lifestyle that was previously prevented by their weight.

Bariatric surgery is not intended for people who are just slightly overweight. In general, you must be morbidly obese in order to qualify for bariatric surgery. Morbidly obese is defined as being overweight by 100 pounds (men) or 80 pounds (women) with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or over.

Forehead Lift: Rejuvenating Your Appearance

Drooping brows, wrinkles, and age lines on the forehead can make you appear upset, angry, tired, or make you appear dramatically older than you really are. A forehead lift by Dr. Bivik Shah tightens and smooths fine lines and wrinkles and eliminates drooping skin, restoring a refreshed, youthful and invigorated appearance to your face. During the forehead lift procedure, muscles and tissues are removed to smooth the forehead, raise the eyebrows, and reduce frown lines.

There are two different forms of forehead lift. The more conventional form of forehead lift is performed through an incision below the hairline. The skin is lifted, underlying tissue is removed, and excess skin is trimmed away to smooth wrinkles and lift the eyebrows. During endoscopic forehead lift, an endoscope (a tiny camera connected to a television monitor) is inserted below the skin to lift and tighten the underlying muscle and tissue. This form of forehead lift is performed through three, four, or five incisions, each less than an inch in length. When the procedure is complete, the incisions are stitched closed and the brow is left to heal in its new position.

Forehead lifts by Dr. Shah can be performed under local anesthesia and is often combined with other cosmetic facial procedures. Common side effects of forehead lift include bruising, swelling, and temporary numbness, however most patients report little discomfort.

Endoscopic Forehead and Brow Lift

As we age, the tissues of the face, including the forehead and eyebrows, may develop laxity and begin to sag and droop. This may cause the eyes to feel tired and may even result in the appearance of fatigue, even when you are well rested. Fortunately, these changes to your face are probably reversible.

The Endoscopic Forehead and Brow Lift Procedure
The latest and most advanced surgical technique for these conditions is endoscopic forehead and brow lift. In this procedure, tiny incisions are placed above the hair line and a scope with a tiny camera (the endoscope) is used to assist the surgeon’s view of deeper forehead and brow tissues. Through these tiny incisions hidden above the hairline, the surgeon frees and elevates the tissues of the eyebrows and forehead, then secures those tissues with very small titanium anchors.

Not uncommonly, a blepharoplasty (upper or lower eyelid procedure) is combined with this procedure for enhanced effect.The endoscopic forehead and brow lift may be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation, or under general anesthesia.

Postoperatively, patients usually have a bandage placed over the forehead to help control swelling. This is typically removed one to two days after surgery and then cold compresses applied. Patients may expect to have bruising and swelling of the forehead and eyebrow area which will resolve over about two to three weeks following the surgery.

Liposuction Breast Reduction Offers Scarless Alternative

Because of adverse scarring prone to darker-skinned patients, some African American women may choose not to have breast reduction.

According to a study in February's Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery(R), the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), liposuction breast reduction may offer African American women a scarless alternative

The study examined 17 African American women whose primary complaint was weight-related, i.e., to relieve physical symptoms associated with overly large breasts -- as opposed to lifting the breast. All 17 women had liposuction breast reduction. Prior to the procedure, all patients attempted non-surgical therapies such as physical therapy, strengthening exercises, and chiropractic care to relieve their symptoms.Patients were studied up to six months after the procedure and all experienced alleviation or significant relief in neck, back and shoulder pain and postural imbalances. Patients' quality-of-life significantly improved, as did their self-esteem, overall health and well-being. There were no complications and no adverse scarring reported.

Some of the most visible signs of aging can be seen on the face. Sagging skin, fine lines and wrinkles are commonly associated with older age. Several changes are also taking place around the eyes. The upper eyelids can droop or become puffy. The fat pads underlying the upper cheeks lose volume. The skin around the upper and lower eyelids loses its elasticity and stretches. Eyelid Surgery
The procedure to fix droopy or sagging, puffy eyelids is called blepharoplasty. It can be done on the upper and/or lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty is the third most common cosmetic surgical procedure in this country. According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 231,467 blepharoplasties were performed in the U.S. in 2005. More than 85 percent of patients are women. It's most commonly done in patients 51 to 64.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
The traditional surgery for fixing lower eyelids uses an incision made just below the lower eyelashes. Working through the opening, doctors remove excess fat and skin. Muscle may be tightened. Breast Augmentation & Breast Implants

One of the largest measures of success in today’s society is the amount of self-confidence possessed by a woman; the first step towards self-confidence is looking and feeling as good as possible. Many women find just the image boost they are looking for in breast augmentation.
